Things to do
Holidays to Lanzarote have a more relaxed and laidback atmosphere than the nearby popular islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Lanzarote holidays are as much about the natural environment of the island as they are about the nightlife. In Lanzarote’s capital, Arrecife, there is the spotless blue flag beach, El Reducto, which is perfect for families. The picturesque harbour is filled with little fishing boats and there is a charming promenade that runs along the beach and around the wonderful San Gines lagoon. You can organise a boat trip from Puerto Calero, a town near Puerto del Carmen (where there is a theme park) and take trips around the coast, stopping off on one of the white beaches, and maybe even having a go at snorkelling in the warm waters. Lanzarote also has plenty of interesting sites to visit, such as the extraordinary underground grottos of La Cueva de los Verdes, which stretch to over 4 miles, making it one of the largest volcanic galleries in the world. There is also the fantastic Castillo de San Gabriel, a 16th Century fortress that overlooks the Arrecife harbour. For a fun family day out head to the water park at Costa Teguise, or you could even take a boat trip over to the island of Fuerteventura.
