Birmingham Airport is situated approximately 5 miles from the city of Birmingham in the borough of Solihull. Opened in 1939, the airport was once owned by Birmingham City Council, however due to the outbreak of the Second World War it was taken under the control of the government. The airport eventually returned to civilian ownership in 1960. Getting to and from Birmingham Airport is extremely straightforward as you have easy access via the M42 motorway and the main A45 road. You can also travel here via rail as there are good connections to the Birmingham International railway station. If you live in or around Birmingham, there are regular coach services that run from the city centre to the airport. There are currently plans in place to build an extension to the main runway here, which would allow Birmingham to receive larger aircrafts that are unfortunately not able to land at Birmingham at the current time.
